i bought this little guitar years ago at a pawn shop, for about $75.00, because it was cute. and, cheap. and, oddly enough, because it had a quality "heft" and feel. i put some used fender branded tuners on it, installed some seymour duncan pickups, a new set of strings, and, by gummies, i "had me a gee-tar," as we say out these parts.
and, much to my everlasting surprise, it plays and sounds pretty damned good for a $75.00 guitar. actually, it sounds and plays about like a good fender squire, and that is no back handed complement. it may not have cost a fortune, but, it is a genuine flat out musical instrument.
i don't play it very much, i reserve playing to several way more expensive guitars (which are entirely wasted on my "talent.") i just keep this one propped up in a corner in the bed room, and every time i look at it, i just smile. and, get a little warm feeling. it's kinda like the old mongrel dog you had as a kid, and that you just never parted company with.
i got it out this morning, hooked it up to the amp (an older used peavy, for which i also have a deep affinity), tuned it, and strummed a bit. it sounds more than passably well. and, i will take it back to the bedroom, and prop it up in its corner, and just be reassured by its presence. (remember the old mongrel dog ... .)
just about the absolute best buy i ever made, on anything. i will end with a little chuckle and smile. chuckle & smile.
