critical threats blog and the bbc maps show that the ukraine continues its drive eastward past lyman, and is till making progress toward kherson. in fact, in kherson several ukrainian "breakthroughs" are advertised, but i have a hard time seeing the progress on the maps.
but, at lyman, the ukraine has bypassed lyman and drives deeper into lands held by the russians, driving them eastward towards their borders. it still appears to me that the ukraine is centering its efforts on the donbas, and that they are simply waiting to bypass the city of donetsk when more ground in the northeast is taken, and control consolidated well past lyman.
i am of the belief that the ukraine could take the city of donetsk pretty much when desired, but that they will hold off on doing so until such time as they can take it, and maintain the integrity of their lines as they drive to the russian border. when they do so, the russian position in the entirety of ukraine is in extreme jeopardy.
in the meantime, they will continue to pin the main body of the russian forces in and around kherson, steadily eroding and degrading russian defenses by attrition of troops, supplies and munitions. they will continue to attack the russian rear in the kherson area, with a view towards eroding their rear guards and the lines supporting kherson. they will not move in a broad frontal attack on kherson city until such time that they feel the russians are sufficiently weakened, to the extent that they cannot hold the city.
it is a clever strategy that the ukraine pursues, and it is designed to keep their attacks cohesive and coordinated, and not subject to counterattack. and, in the end, it will expel russia from their territories.

p.s. oh, wouldn't it be wonderful if ukraine were to obtain some nukes, perhaps find some in a warehouse that they missed when they gave their nukes back to russia. they had some, you know, and gave them back. nice to find some "overlooked" weapons, to sober putin up a bit, you know what i mean. just a delivery van, with some spare nukes in it ...... .
he is quite crazy, you know.
