i have been puttering away this morning on a guitar, getting a pickup squared away that i had installed incorrectly a while back. just getting around to the fact that if i didn't tear into it again and fix it, ... , well, it would stay non-functional.
update, this day, 10.21.2021. gloat, gloat, gloat & brag. laughing my fool ass off. i just strung the guitar with the "d" string, after tightening the pickups with a corner screw, and plugged it into the amp, and pressed the button. low & behold !!!, i got sound from the neck pickup, sound from the bridge pickup (which had been dead for a good while), and sound from the middle setting for the pickups, which had also ceased to function some time ago.
i had been prepared to have a repairman/luthier tackle the issue, but i could find no one in m-f or walla walla to do the job, and had corresponded with a big name repair person only to have that person loose any interest at all once he understood "no money" would be in it for him. finally, i just decided to do the repair myself, so, i did this morning. i just did it in the proper order, taking care not to damage anything getting at the innards (of the semi-hollow body), and making sure i could get the damned thing together: you can loose things in them, you know. laughing.
so, i am back in business. should be o.k. for a bit, and i invested in some good electrical tape to make sure it would not come "unraveled." a good day. and, gloat some more. end update.****
i reached a point where i could use a break (paring the insulation off of very small wires is more tiring than it looks), so it was off to mickey d's for a cup of coffee and their new segmented pull apart doughnut, which is pretty good, thank you very much.
i putted up the hill out of town, off the main highway to park on a bus stop and watch the traffic go by, and gnash the pastry and drink mickey d's coffee, to which i am partial. well, it has been hotter than hades all summer hereabouts, but this morning it was frost on the ground and the car, and spotting the grass, but a nice clear day with high cumulus clouds.
a good day for a heavy flannel shirt. and, to just sit & watch.
and, sun shining through the driver's side window hitting me on the back of the head and shoulder, and the warmth through the flannel was just right and oh so soothing. there was nothing to do but take an occasional sip of coffee and bite of doughnut, and watch for any traffic that might be interesting. and, to soak up the sun's comforting rays, just like an old cat stretched out to length on a window sill, taking the sun and absorbing creation. for a bit the driver's seat was tilted back and my old bones found solace in basking recumbent, ... , not a bad way to pass a bit of the day.
every now and again one of the local corvette or tesla drivers will put up the hill while i am there observing, but not today, ... , the only thing of interest was a local log truck coming down the hill at a pretty brisk clip, empty of logs, before braking as he entered town traffic. not really much to worry about, as the tractor with trailer snugged up behind the cab piggyback, has all the brakes in the world to slow down with, when empty. empty, they can zip right along, and stop very quickly.
not a care in the world. i haven't thought about joe biden once today, and just now. very pleasant, that. i recommend not thinking about the son of a bitch, just every now and again. it is good for the soul.

*** local fellow, but, he rather loftily told me that he is interested only in orchestral instruments, and musicians ... only people of high brows and lofty aesthetics are of interest, (and not persons of low standing who play guitars) and only they are worthy of his time and efforts. i guess if you ain't "violin brown," you just don't rate.
**** and, counting the money i saved. quite literally, rubbing my hands together in glee!!
