i may or may not be spelling his name correctly, but, it matters not to me, ... , perhaps to his family.
he wrote an article for the gun and ammo internet publication, circa 2018, about the five best cartridges for the ar-15 platform which i just stumbled over. the ar-15 platform was designed around the ar-15 platform, and that rifle around that cartridge. before he announced his choices, he strangely excluded the 6.8mm rem spc for any number of failings, principally for mediocre velocity in certain of the bullet weights for which it is loaded.
(i happen to own and like the 6.8mm rem spc, but, that is largely besides the point.)
benedikt choose several cartridges of obvious merit (perhaps pumping their merits, perhaps not), but then chooses several cartridges having even less velocity and bullet energy (per a given bullet weight) than the remington 6.8mm spc, and tries to argue that their velocities with/at lower bullet weights establishes their merits. he forgets, rather conveniently for someone who professes to be a "numbers guy," that the 6.8mm spc also shoots lower bullet weights faster, and faster than the ones whose "virtues" he extols for their velocity in those lower bullet weight ranges.
in short, he has his head up his ass. which causes me to wonder why? i suspect a lack of a brain, but, financial interests could also dictate such blatant silliness on his part.
well, it is a small matter. people have different capacities and virtues, much like rifle cartridges, and it probably makes little difference in the fate of the universe. but to pick cartridge like the .300 blackout or the .25x45 sharps (o.k., now, who ever heard of that little number: it is deservedly obscure) over the 6.8mm rem spc, as useful cartridges in the ar-15, transcends silly, and arrives safely at "really really dumb." as in, "dumb as a post."
it wasn't his best day at the keyboard.
