i've been thinking about joe biden, and though most of my thinking is not geared towards blanket pronouncements, it seems inescapable to me that joe biden is not a horse for battle, not an old horse who comes alive at the clang of the fire bell.
donald john trump is made for battle. he does not shrink from a good fight, and he is at his best when in a good rousing fight, ... , indeed, he seems to relish it. at the sound and clamor of contest, he is ready, willing and able to enter the fray, battle clubs in both hands.
the fight over the nomination of amy coney barrett was a classic battle, at a classic key point in the fortunes of war between american republicans and democrats, and donald trump rose to the occasion, basically rising from his hospital bed to join and lead the repubs into action. it is no overstatement to say that he rallies the republicans into the fray, and when he enters the fields of contest, "his loins are girded for battle," as the old phrase goes.
trump, front and center.
in this contest over the court appointment joe biden simply was not there. he did not lead the battle, indeed, he simply did not join it. he was absent without leave. when the dimmo's desperately needed a clarion call to join the fight, it was not biden's part to offer it, it was not biden's part to do battle in the senate, where he "served" for years. if anyone should have known the ground to be fought over, it was biden, but biden, as a field general, simply was wanting. for anything.
that much was obvious.
which leads me to the thinking part.
how has joe biden got the nomination of his party to run for president? it certainly is not any quality to lead the troops into glorious battle, to go forth and slay the dragons, of which there are many in politics. joe biden is not a fighter. (this does not bode well for a person who is to lead the fight for his country's fortunes in international politics, trade and even warfare, if need be. contrast this with trump's efforts on the international stage, where he has shown absolutely no reluctance to advance his country's best interests, and very ably.)
if biden is not a fighter, what qualities does he possess, not otherwise apparent upon the surface of a very bland exterior? he doesn't appear to have gotten things done behind the scenes, as his legislative record is almost as nonexistent as his role in the recent confirmation hearings. he did not lead the charge as hubert humphrey, a grand old warrior. he did not work the hallways as lyndon johnson, whose legislative career and record were almost legendary .... the old johnson handshake, in which he grasped his opponents hand, and drew his inexorably into his grasp, and ultimately ended as a bear hug where he towered over his opponent. humphrey, johnson, even john kennedey, .... , all of them in the heat of battle, at their best.
joe biden is none of them, not even a shadow of any of those men.
the only thing i can conclude about biden is that he must have a lot of dirt on a lot of people to have gotten to this point, a political ferret who worked the shadows and the gutters, amassing this little bit of knowledge as a wedge or lever to use against opponents. a ferret. a smile, a bite, and a scurry.
that is the rather unflattering picture i have of biden. caught red handed with his hands in the pockets of the chinese and the ukrainians, he can only weakly deny the obvious, and count on his rich benefactors to use their considerable power to censor and suppress the news of his venality. i confess to no flattering view of biden, but, in all "fairness" what am i left with.
you remember the dust up henry gates had with the police officer, the one where obama and biden were to have the friendly little chat w/ the "offending cop" over beers at the white house? well, it was designed for obama & biden to be the "old dutch uncles" who would lead the cop realize the error of his ways, and make a public confession of his culpability. it didn't work out that way, with the cop more than holding his own on enemy turf, in front of the cameras. and, all i remember of biden was that he quaffed a little bear, and smiled, and shrank back from the fight.
that is what i remembered of biden then, and that is what i see now. a little smile, a posture bent over and diffident, and shrinking from the fight. it simply isn't in him.
and, it isn't what i want to see leading the united states. period.

p.s. on his tombstone? "he served his masters well."
The ONLY party that would nominate a hair sniffing, tits groping, demented old man is a party so out of touch with reality it doesn't even know it's out of touch.

To the Democrats, Biden is like the Mayor in Miller's Crossing, he will keep things quiet while the gangs rape the town.
