i got a hit on this just now, and read this essay.
it may be the best essay i ever wrote, from scratch, just off the top of my head.
"zero" comments.
i am beginning to be a pessimist, too. quite frankly.
just take my guns, my ammo and a good dog to the hills, and hunker in, and wonder on the fires on the horizon at night and the acrid smoke in the air during the day.
