isaac asimov's observation should be written on the small obscure head stone that marks the burial place of the mainstream media. it rose, it ruled, and now it slips into obsolescence and irrelevance. the new york times, the washington post, the glossy monthly journals are near death, their subscriptions melting away, their advertising revenues shrinking. where once the atlantic monthly was a place to read though provoking articles, ... , it isn't. mostly, the monthly publish puerile crap.
donald trump has chosen not to attend the big washington d.c. press corps dinner, deeming it not worth the bother. trump generates his own readership and exposure, and he has absolutely no need to use the press corps to reach his target audiences. and, more precisely, those people that pay attention to what the "press corps" writes about, and what they think about things, are not trump's concern or worry: he does not tailor his public statements in an effort to woo those who care about what the press thinks.
the press is irrelevant in donald trump's universe. if and when they become important to him, he will seek a rapprochement. until then, he cares not a whit for them, and will not be a source of fodder to stroke their egos.
hat tip "c" for the following link, and article.--
taki's magazine has published an article by david cole entitled "the media and relevance: a slow fade out." 03.02.2017 . http://takimag.com/article/the_media_and_relevance_a_slow_fade_out_david_cole/print#axzz4a8qLF5B9 .
the thesis advanced in the article is pretty straightforward, and of fundamental concern to the media: it is that the power of the media fades as it becomes increasingly marginalized by its leftist posture, and obsolescent in its technology, being replaced quite rapidly by media outlets that allow people like donald trump to reach far greater numbers than he can through traditional media, and to tailor and form his message precisely as he wishes to present it. in short, donald trump reaches who he wants to reach, and without the bother of having his message diluted and filtered through a hostile media.
this is the thing. most who like and admire trump and voted for him, (include me in), don't care for the mainstream media, and view it antagonistically because it distorts fact and events to conform to its leftist view of the world. in short, the media types are mostly a bunch of leftist assholes who lie to promote their own agenda.
pamela geller and others call it the "enemedia," (a cross between enema and enemy and media, which i find entirely appropriate), and i agree. in my view, the mainstream media is nothing more or less than the propaganda arm of the left, the progressives, the communists and the irretrievably whacky and perverse.
think about the fact that the washington post has hired pedarist-pedophile john podesta to write a column. i want nothing to do with that intellectual corruption and decadence, predicated as it is upon immoral perversion. shame on the post. you think that i am gonna pay to read that trash, you got another think coming.
this is one reason why increasing numbers do not read the media, and view it as the enemy. the media has chosen perversion as its morality, and makes no apology for its "life style" choices.
it is precisely why the media has no reach, no influence, no amount of attitude formulation over the great bulk and majority of the american people. the american people, as all people, are traditionalists, and oriented to family, and values of honesty, integrity and uprightness. they believe in good. they are not "cultural relativists." they do not believe in the sacrifice of good on the alter of expediency. in short, they simply do not believe in those notions that fuel progressives, and that have been adopted by the media, and propounded by the various factions and minority groups that seem to hold sway over the leftist "intelligentsia."
and, they are not buying what the media sells.
and, donald trump does not look to the media to inform his values and value formation, and has absolutely no need of the media to determine and inform his world view. and, neither do i, and most people (it is my belief.)
so, donald trump spurns the media, and so do i. and, the other reason is that i have alternative sources of truth that i trust, featuring essays that are written by scholars and feature in depth treatment of their subjects, along with a blogosphere that digs for the truth no matter where it leads.
but, go to david coles analysis, which is thoughtful, provocative and entertaining, and explains why the mainstream media is swirling in the toilet bowl flush of oblivion. it is right that we regard the media as the "enemedia." i wish that i had coined the phrase.
