when you have a big poker game going, the guy with all the chips whose cards have been coming his way is the soul of patience and discretion, whereas the little guy with the diminishing chip pile is the one to throw discretion to the winds, and put all his chips in on any chance to gain ground, even a slender one.
dismal prospects breed rash decisions, and risk chances. what is, after all, to loose? better to loose on a big throw, than to be ground down to little pieces, relentlessly.
this calculus holds true in politics.
so, i am at a little bit of a loss to understand obama's decision to risk all that he has gained over a civil war, or a general insurrection, over his attempts to ram his "gun control" agenda down the mouths of conservatives in general, and gun owners in particular.
what is there that has caused leftist/radical/democratic strategists to be worried about their overall prospects, such that they would encourage obama to "put everything in" to the pot, when seemingly, all he would have to do would be to play his position with a modicum of care, and take what seems to be coming to him without risk?
does obama really think that he can become dictator by executive order? that he can bypass the need for legislative imprimatur on such a fundamental constitutional issue?
this seems more than rash to me, it seems foolhardy.
obama found out on climate control, he found out w/ regard to health care, that attempting to stampede congress is not the best way. so, why adopt that strategy here, if his strategists were telling him that the public is with him, and that he is solid with all the peeps on this issue? why are the strategists not telling him, mohammed, the mountain is coming to you, and in pretty jig time.
my guess, is that the strategists haven't told him that, and in spite of all the media hanky wringing, the public has indicated that they are not in lock step with obama's aims and stratagems on gun control. so, in order to get what he wants, he flirts with the prospect of armed insurrection.
my further guess is, that he will not incur the risk. he will run right up to it, ... , and back away, if it seems too real to him.

p.s. just wondering. in actual fact, it makes little difference to me. i am preparing for either eventuality, and if he and his congressional minions act to try and impose gun registration or confiscation, or to withhold components such as ammo, or powder or primers from us such that we cannot prepare for or participate in insurrection, ... , well, i'll have an answer for that.
this whole thing does not have me in an intellectual or emotional dither, or any particular perturbation at all. i am willing to live in peace, i am quite eager to go to war over the issue. like the good little boy scout that i once was, i am prepared. emotionally. intellectually. and, in every other way.
we'll see.
