this post at "captain's journal" is very interesting. http://www.captainsjournal.com/2012/11/03/so-what-were-the-assets-available-for-benghazi-part-ii/ . its odd that we learn more from a czechoslovakian commentator than we do from our department of defense.
well, not so odd. the czeck is trying to illumine the truth. leon panetta's department of defense is doing everything it can to hide the truth from the american public, to put a basket over the "light,"because the obama administration made a cluster fuck out of this thing from top to bottom.

p.s. and, everybody is fixated on the land resources based in italy. the d.o.d. points to the delay in sending troops as inherent in mustering them, and flying them to benghazi, and the same old tired litany.
but, nobody has answered my questions.-- 1.)where was the nearest air arm of the united states navy, as located on a fleet aircraft carrier? 2.)where was the nearest u.s. marine corps/navy amphibious assault task force, which has available to it harrier jets (the marines are specifically trained as close quarters infantry support, and are simply the best in the world at it, end of discussion), attack helicopters, and choppers to carry marine combat troops. such an amphibious landing force also has available to it hover craft which could have driven the troops right to the embassy, the streets being wide enough.
and, as noted, the 6th fleet has osprey v-22 tilt rotor helicopters, with a speed of 325+ knots, and an operational range of 600 miles or so. they also have in flight refueling capabilities, and can do so in the night. it's not something that i would want to try, but, i am not a lean green fightin' marine, either. brave men, lots of pucker factor available to them. i stand in admiration.
they could have done it, with anyone brave enough in the obama administration to put them in the air.
all of this stuff and more, including up to 1,000 marines per amphibious carrier, would have been available in various degrees, depending upon the particular compliment of arms, material and men aboard each of the individual amphibious landing carriers.
hey, you can mount an invasion of a pretty fair sized country with such a carrier group?
so, if one was available, why in the hell wasn't it used? i don't like the dept. of defense response as it stands. if there were help near in the form of such an amphibious carrier group, and it wasn't used, i think the public has only one recourse.
impeachment. of the president. of hillary clinton. of leon panetta. my "jury" is still out on patraeus. i think it is his patriotic duty to start talking, and to start talking now. he goes on my "shit list" if he doesn't.
