update:  all is lost.  thus civilizations end.  end update.

 

it is 8:54 p.m. my time in n.e. oregon.

right now the same network that projects victory there for obama, giving him 18 of the 274 electoral college vote they also project for him, stands at:

mitt romney    ~~       2,295,003  votes

barack obama ~~       2,275,618  votes

hint: romney has more votes right now.  we'll see as the night wears on.

with 78% of the precincts counted.

if ohio goes to romney, that brings obama's count down to 256 electoral college votes, less than the majority required to be elected president.

i guess that make the outcome in ohio pretty important.  ohio, florida and virginia will determine the election.
