tip of the hat, to friend ron fortier.
you got a gloomy room with no light, no electricity?
just stick a plastic soft drink bottle (full of water) into your shed roof, or your tent or lean-to roof, and, poof, you have light. simple as that.
this film, from "kim komando's" site, http://www.tvkim.com/watch/1433/kims-picks-ingenious-solar-lights , shows how it is done. pretty simple, especially if you are living under a metal roof.
caveats: no, it does not make heat. no, it does not work in the dark. and, no, i have no idea how it works if it is cold outside and the water freezes: i should imagine this would cut down on the light transmission, though i don't know how much. hey, look it up. there should be a transmission/refraction function somewhere for frozen vs. liquid water.
where does this all end, this plastic water bottle w/ water in it, ... , what, ... , phenomena? laughing.

I'll definitely try this do-it-yourself and put it in my garage. This would be a great idea since, most of the time, I do my repairs in that area during the morning. I bet this would be more effective during sunny days.
