moammar gadhafi is dead.
good riddance.
i do not see that the "arab spring" has caused much by way of decrease in the arab/muslim slaughter of christian and coptic minorities in egypt, syria and the like. nor do i see much "democracy" to emerge out of it so far.
we shall see.
there are, however, lessons to be drawn from it. it appears that the patience of n.a.t.o. and the west is not inexhaustible, if the situation appears to be such that strikes against arab regimes who have been problem children on the international scene can be carried out on a relatively cost free basis. and, it would appear that it is exceptionally dangerous to be surveilled and targeted by remote control drones if you have no weapon in defense of them.
quacks daffily's final dash to escape & freedom seems to have eluded the detection of the "rebel" forces, who supposedly had him encircled, but it did not evade the detection of a predator drone and a french attack aircraft, which appear to have shot the convoy carrying the former dictator to bits.
unless you have the capacity to see and destroy these things, they are pretty damned lethal. something to think about.
any regime in possession and control of such things is going to prove fairly formidable, both in terms of exercising & retaining foreign and domestic power.

p.s. you suppose the obama administration surveills the "occupy wall street" crowds for "law enforcement" purposes, or just "tea party" crowds? maybe janet napolitano might clarify?
