this to a friend, and it is self explanatory.
a headline that is going around, indicating that the commander of american troops in afghanistan is pressuring for more troops to perform his mission and protect his troops, shows that obama is not going to bring this military obediently to "heel." they will not suffer their losses in quiet, just to serve obama's political aims.
this presents an intractable problem to obama, in my opinion, ... , professional soldiers remain steadfastly apposite to the values obama wants to "impose" on all of us. and, we have the guns. and, so does the professional military.

[dear friend]:
the military do/does not like obama, singular & plural.
simple fact.
and, there is something else involved here, a subtlety if you will.--
unlike other dictator wannabe's, obama cannot change the makeup of this military. it will stay the same.
why?
because it is an all volunteer force. the people who serve in the military are small town, small community, and country kids. they do so for adventure, for reasons of service and patriotism. because this is what their grandpa's and their daddy's did. i know, i often walk my little town's cemetery, and i know where our soldiers come from. and, i read the d.o.d. stats on military deaths, and they come disproportionately from small towns, and not from the cities. city kids have not died in iraq & afghanistan, ... , they are too "sophisticated" to die for their country, for abstract notions like patriotism, liberty and freedom, ... , especially as fought for and extended to the benefit of and for others.
and, obama cannot change this.
to change this would mean to impose a massive involuntary draft, discharge those who presently serve, and install in their stead those young people who support obama, ... , college kids, the sons and daughters of the hiply wealthy, and political radicals willing to serve obama and their radical notions rather than defend the country.
and they simply are not willing: they have learned their leftist lesson too damned well. these types will not "volunteer." they will stay away in droves from the military, as they always have. there is, after all, in their minds, "nothing worth killing for, and sure as hell nothing worth dying for." obama and his ilk made 'em, and now they are stuck with the disbelieving bastards.
and they and theirs will not stand for the imposition of a military draft. it would be political suicide for obama to try it. one, his motives would be crystal clear, to obtain a military subservient to his will. and, two, his "constituency" would cease being his constituency if he tried such a ploy. obama and his ilk made 'em, and now they are stuck with the disbelieving bastards.
this is now conclusively established by his gross failure to get his "national civilian security force" off the ground, ... , he has given it up, "deferring" it for further study. why did this gambit fail. one, his motive was crystal clear, a brown shirted force subservient to his will, and designed to impose quiet on a restive population. and, two, his "constituency" showed absolutely no enthusiasm to volunteer their services, and gave every indication they would not. in short, his "constituency" does not exist in the profile he expected.
he will not change the military.
and, the military will not change for him.
pride, rectitude, sincerity and belief. family, church, community and patriotism are the values that underpin the kids who serve. they know why they are there, they know why they serve, and they know that some of them will die and they know why. i wish i were half the man, half the person, that each of these kids is.*** simply put.
the military remains a bulwark of freedom, liberty and right for the american people. and, why? because the american military is of and reflects the aims and attitudes of the american people, especially those who are conservative and cherish the heritage, the politics and the fundamental liberties and rights whose expression and exercise have made this country what it is.
a beacon of liberty.
this will not change on their watch.

p.s. *** and, please, no one write, "john, relax, you are half the man of each of these kids."

In Kabul, some members of McChrystal’s staff said they don’t understand why Obama called Afghanistan a “war of necessity” but still hasn’t given them the resources they need to turn things around quickly.
Three officers at the Pentagon and in Kabul told McClatchy that the McChrystal they know would resign before he’d stand behind a faltering policy that he thought would endanger his forces or the strategy.
“Yes, he’ll be a good soldier, but he will only go so far,” a senior official in Kabul said. “He’ll hold his ground. He’s not going to bend to political pressure.”
If Gen McChrystal was truly motivated to defeat the Taleban, i could understand, but so far, all he has indicated is that he wants to win hearts and minds i.e., bribe all the people of Afghanistan by proving them with jobs, medical facilities, education, infrastructure etc etc, forever, so that don't look to the Taleban.
There is a discussion going on here
